Advisory group backs Batangas PNP modernization

BALAYAN, BATANGAS (PIA) – The Batangas Provincial, City, and Municipal Group of the Batangas Provincial Police has assured its support in modernizing the Philippine National Police (PNP) under its Patrol Plan 2030.

During the Provincial, City, and Municipal Advisory Summit held on February 28, 2024, Dr. Rolando Tumambing, Provincial Advisory Group (PAG) chair, underscored the role of the Summit in addressing the gaps in making the city and municipal advisory groups more active.

“We want to determine the functionality of the advisory councils and [emphasize] the importance of holding regular meetings [at least] six times each year. It must also be well-documented to serve as proof of our work here in the Council,” Tumambing said.

The PAG also suggested investing in satellite phones for every police station to ensure continuous communication lines which has been a problem, especially during calamities.

Judge Josephine Garcia-Borbon said the Provincial Police must also provide personal equipment such as body-worn cameras and breath analyzers to help law enforcers during apprehensions and police operations.

On top of maintaining peace and security in the province, Batangas Provincial Police and its local counterparts have supported various programs launched by the partner local government units.

The Batangas PAG was organized and formed by the Batangas Police Provincial Office through its Provincial Police Strategy Management Unit. The group's members came from different sectors, organizations, and government agencies in the province.

The group's projects and initiatives such as tree planting, provided livelihood programs for drug surrenderees, and cleanup activities in public markets, are being assisted and maintained by the BPPO. Through the annual License to Own and Possess (LTOPF) caravan, the PAG has been a strong advocate for gun safety and responsible gun ownership. They have also collaborated on other civic causes such as Bisita Eskwela, gift-giving for indigent residents, and career orientation, among others.

Mayor Emmanuel Salvador Fronda said the municipal government, led by his office, has supported the local police to ensure safety and security in the community.

“A community’s peace and order situation is the biggest key to its progress. The quieter the place, the more investors would want to establish businesses and more people want to reside. That is why we give our 100 percent support to the police in this.” (BPDC/PIA-Batangas)
