‘Seeing stars’ to cap PIA’s National Women’s Month

MANILA, (PIA) --  The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) is hosting one of the most unique activities organized for this year’s National Women's Month Celebration (NWMC) – a family night out culminating in a stargazing session and planetarium experience to be mounted by the astronomy section of  the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The activity entitled, "Stardust Revelations: A Cosmic Adventure Celebrating Women Under the Stars" aims to inspire a sense of wonder and exploration, while fostering family bonding. It is set to take place on Friday, March 15 at the PIA Grounds along Visayas Avenue in Quezon City from 4 pm to 8 pm.

"We are excited to offer a diverse range of activities that not only raise awareness about women's rights and empowerment, but also create opportunities for learning, relaxation, and family fun," said PIA Director-General Jose A. Torres Jr., during Monday's flag raising ceremony.

Likewise, the PIA has scheduled a variety of events throughout March to celebrate Women's Month. The schedule goes beyond traditional conferences and workshops, incorporating activities designed to empower and engage women and families.

"We encourage everyone to join us in celebrating the important contributions of women in Philippine society," Torres added.

The month kicked off with a ceremony on March 4, followed by the display of a National Women's Month Council banner and the decoration of the PIA's GAD Corner in purple, the official color of the celebration.

On International Women's Day, March 8, the PIA hosted a presentation by Department of Justice (DOJ) Assistant Secretary Michelle Ann S. Lapuz on utilizing social media to promote women's empowerment and combat violence against women (VAW).

A film screening about the struggle of a woman who was left handicapped by an accident but was resilient and able to overcome everything was also featured at the PIA Auditorium.

Other activities throughout the month include Zumba sessions, self-defense training workshops for women, and a medical mission in collaboration with a partner organization.

A bazaar and raffle are also planned, as well as a talk on entrepreneurship programs in partnership with the Quezon City government.

Employees, meanwhile, are also encouraged to wear purple every Friday to show solidarity with the Women's Month campaign.

The 2024 NWMC activities, led by the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), carries the sub-theme, “Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas; Kakayahan ng Kababaihan, Patutunayan!” which highlights the need to showcase and harness the full potentials of women and girls in actively engaging in and reaping the benefits of national growth and development.
