SSS sets up service hubs in Sorsogon barangays

SORSOGON CITY, Sorsogon (PIA) -- State-run pension fund Social Security System (SSS) has expanded its presence in Sorsogon as the number of members in the province grew in 2023.

Rolando Gomez, branch head of SSS, said it has opened service centers in a number of barangays to serve the 91,870 employees and self-employed individuals in the province.

“These centers in barangays acted as hubs for encouraging locals to sign up with SSS,” Gomez said.

“The SSS engaged with constituents by organizing sessions to identify individuals capable of becoming SSS members,” he added.

He said the “community-centric approach” has made the membership process smoother, especially for those in the informal sector.

According to Gomez, the number of SSS members in the province has increased by 32 percent, reaching a total of 91,870 as of November 29, 2023.

This growth is mainly due to an increase in the number of enrollees, including self-employed and voluntary members, which totaled 2,455.

As a result, collections have also increased, reaching P259,620,000 during the first 11 months of 2023, based on SSS data.

Despite the increase, Gomez urges other self-employed individuals to register and become members.

To do so, they can visit the SSS website and click on the "Apply for an SS Number Online" box located in the middle of the homepage.

After filling out the online form with accurate personal information, they can click the "submit" button.

Upon completion, the applicant will receive a link in the email address provided in the application form. (PIA 5/Sorsogon)
