Zambo Norte backs info campaign on West Philippine Sea

DAPITAN CITY (PIA) – The Provincial Government of Zamboanga del Norte extended its gratitude to the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), the National Security Council (NSC), and the National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea (NTF-WPS) for holding its strategic communication workshop in the city.

Former Interior Undersecretary Marjorie Jalosjos, who represented Zamboanga del Norte Gov. Rosalina “Nanay Nene” Jalosjos in the workshop’s opening program, said the planning session is a major step taken to increase public awareness and transparency regarding the WPS issue. 

She underscored the imperative of ensuring the country's rightful claim to its waters in a dignified manner. “We must do whatever we can to see to it that our country’s claim to its waters is well ascertained,” she said.

Addressing the PIA information officers, Jalosjos emphasized their pivotal role in disseminating the country's stance on the WPS, urging them to enlighten fellow Filipinos about the multifaceted realities surrounding the issue. 

She emphasized the need to empower citizens to make informed decisions and actively participate in shaping the nation's future. 

“As PIA information officers, it falls upon your shoulders to communicate our country’s stance with regards to the WPS. It is your job to enlighten our fellow Filipinos about the realities and complexities surrounding it,“ she said.

Encouraging a collaborative approach, Jalosjos called upon participants to leverage collective wisdom and expertise to develop cohesive strategies for effectively communicating the government's position and actions regarding the WPS issue. 

“We should utilize our collective wisdom and expertise to develop cohesive and effective strategies for communicating our government’s position and actions on the WPS issue by working as one and getting our acts together,” she said. 

She underscored the importance of unity in strengthening the country's claim to the vital body of water while amplifying the voices of coastal communities reliant on its resources.

Acknowledging the sacrifices of the nation's uniformed personnel who safeguard maritime borders with valor, Ms. Jalosjos expressed gratitude for their courage and dedication.

Concluding her address, she expressed Governor Jalosjos's hope that the workshop would serve as a catalyst for enhancing communication strategies on the WPS, fostering a deeper understanding, and igniting a renewed sense of patriotism among Filipinos. She assured full support from Zamboanga del Norte province in advancing this noble initiative. 

“Gov. Nanay Nene Jalosjos also wishes to assure everyone that she and the entire province of Zamboanga del Norte fully supports this initiative and will extend whatever we can to advance it,“ she added.

In closing, Ms. Jalosjos thanked participants for their commitment to the cause, emphasizing the enduring impact their contributions would have on the nation's overall communication strategy for the WPS and the advancement of its national interests. (EDT/JPA/Zamboanga Sibugay)
