Tabuk Vet Office launches 90-day campaign to eradicate ASF

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga (PIA) -- The Tabuk City Veterinary Office (CVO) launched a 90-day operational plan (Oplan) that is aimed at  controlling, and preventing African Swine Fever (ASF) cases in the city.

City veterinarian Carmen Wanas said the 90-day operation is required to fully clear the city from the disease that previously put Tabuk as an ASF ‘hot-spot’.

The three-phased operation involves disinfecting, and cleaning pig pens in the first 30 days covering as many hog production sites as possible, Wanas said.

She said their office is open to requests, and teams shall be deployed to the areas.

The next 30-days involve a thorough inspection, and the gathering of swab samples from piggeries, and hog production houses to determine if there are still signs of the disease.

The CVO will also distribute disinfectants during this phase to assure full sanitization of piggeries.

Wanas said the last 30-days will be ‘sentineling’, where fresh pig or piglet samples are exposed to disinfected pig pens for blood and feces specimen collection to show whether the area is now ASF-free.

The operational plan is  one of  the city government’s supports for the hog industry as a major income source in the province. (LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
