DSWD enhances learning centers to boost childhood development in Romblon

ODIONGAN, Romblon (PIA) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) regional office recently unveiled the enhanced Early Childhood Care Development (ECCD) Centers in Barangay Cambot and Pinamihagan, San Jose, Romblon.

These centers are equipped with amenities that will help the early development of every child in both barangays.

The new centers were part of the Philippine Multi-Sectoral Nutrition Project (PMNP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development's Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services or KALAHI-CIDSS.

During the turnover ceremony, Councilor Napoleon Tandog expressed his full support to Councilor Napoleon Tandog, Sangguniang Bayan Member of San Jose, expressed his full support tofor community-driven development projects such as KALAHI-CIDSS. He emphasized the importance of this initiative, highlighting San Jose as one of the pioneering municipalities in the region to implement this KALAHI-CIDSS project.

According to Tandog, the completion of the two centers was made possible through a support and augmentation scheme, with a total cost of P2,667,458.56.

The funding includes P1,447,132.62 from DSWD's KALAHI-CIDSS PMNP Municipal Grant and P220,325.94 from the Municipal and Barangay Counterpart.

These centers are expected to benefit a total of 684 beneficiaries from the two barangays.

DSWD in a press statement said that PMNP aims to optimize the utilization of nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive interventions that will enhance key health behaviors and mitigate malnutrition, wasting, and stunting in the region. (PJF/PIA Mimaropa - Romblon)
