Paying the right taxes is a badge of honor, says Baguio mayor

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) -- Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong encouraged the city’s taxpayers to do their civic duty of paying the right taxes, and be involved in ensuring participatory and good governance.

“As we embark on this year’s regional tax campaign, let us do so with renewed purpose and determination. Let us strive for excellence in governance, transparency in our financial dealings, and efficiency in our tax collection efforts.  Let us work hand in hand, government and citizenry alike, to ensure that every peso collected is utilized wisely, and for the greater good,” he said.

“Let us foster a culture of accountability, and responsibility, where paying taxes is not seen as a burden, but as a civic duty, and a badge of honor,” Magalong stressed in his message at the regional kick-off of the  Bureau of Internal Revenue’s (BIR)  tax information campaign.

With the city government of Baguio as among the top taxpayers in Cordillera, Magalong led the pledge of support of taxpayers to the 2024 tax campaign.

BIR regional director Claire Corpus, appealed to taxpayers to file, and pay the right taxes and help in nation building.

“We are all aware that paying the right taxes helps build our country, and sustain the needs of our kababayan. This is in consonant with our President’s aspiration for a Bagong Pilipinas: one nation, one people, building a better future together,” she said.

Corpus said that the target of this year’s national tax campaign is to collect P3.05 billion.
