Taguig pushes for male involvement in ending VAW

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano has emphasized the crucial role men play in ending Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC).

Highlighting the "#ViolenceAgainstWomenAndChildren" campaign, Cayetano stressed that achieving a safe and violence-free community for women requires a collective effort, with men being key partners.

"Ganap lang na matutuldukan ang #ViolenceAgainst WomenAndChildren (VAWC) kung buo ang commitment ng kalalakihan sa laban dito. Mahalagang bahagi sila sa pagbuo ng isang pamayanang ligtas at malayo sa karahasan for women to feel supported and loved," she said.

(Ending VAWC can only be truly achieved with the full commitment of men. They are essential in building a society where women feel supported and loved.)

As part of the Taguig's "Caring City" agenda, prioritizing women and children's safety is a core principle. The local chief executive reiterated the city's stance against all forms of abuse.

The focus extends beyond awareness campaigns.

The initiative underscores the importance of involving men, particularly those in public service, to become advocates for change.

This collaborative approach aims to build safer homes and communities.

The official also acknowledged the efforts of the Taguig Gender and Development (GAD) office in promoting "Vow to End: A Man's Guide to Ending Violence Against Women."

She also expresses gratitude to Ms. Imelda D. Basilio, Cluster Head of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), for sharing her expertise. (PIA-NCR)
