QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- In preparation for the upcoming Holy Week, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) is gearing up its security preparations.

NCRPO chief PMGen Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr. said that the Metro Manila police officers is intensifying efforts to ensure the safety and security of the public during this period of increased travel and religious activities.

Nartatez said that NCRPO will deploy 11,347 personnel starting Monday, March 25. The NCRPO will implement comprehensive measures to address the unique challenges posed by the convergence of Holy Week observance from March 25 to 31, 2024, and the onset of the summer vacation, from April 1 to May 31, 2024.

NCRPO noted that many citizens and returning overseas Filipinos are expected to return to their hometowns to observe the Holy Week and celebrate fiestas resulting in the congestion of roads, transportation hubs, airports, and seaports.

We are dedicated to creating a secure environment during the Holy Week and SUMVAC, and we urge everyone to be partners in ensuring a peaceful and enjoyable season,” said Nartatez.

Meanwhile, team NCRPO also collaborated with local government units, other law enforcement agencies, and private stakeholders to establish a comprehensive security framework. Information-sharing mechanisms and joint operations will be paramount to maintaining a vigilant and responsive security machinery.

To address potential traffic congestion and enhance public safety, the NCRPO will implement traffic management strategies in coordination with concerned agencies. It includes the deployment of personnel to critical traffic points and the establishment of Police Assistance Desks (PADs) to provide support and assistance for travelers across the region during the holy week and SUMVAC 2024.

Likewise, the NCRPO chief reassured the public that the security measures are designed to promote a safe and secure environment for all citizens and visitors. As the nation observes these significant occasions, the NCRPO stands ready to uphold its duty to maintain law and order.

Meanwhile, the public is encouraged to cooperate, remain vigilant, and report suspicious activities, individuals, or groups to law enforcement authorities. (NCRPO/PIA-NCR)
