BIR launches tax campaign in Palawan

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan (PIA) -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) tax campaign in Palawan kicked off on Friday in preparation for the collection of the 2023 annual income tax (ITR), which is due on April 15.

Regional Director of Revenue Region 6-Manila Renato Molina acknowledged the significant contribution of Palawan under the revenue district office no. 36 in meeting the collection of the region.

The developments observed in the city of Puerto Princesa and the province of Palawan were attributed to the compliance of local taxpayers with their tax obligations.

“Ito ay nagpapatunay na ang buwis na ibinabayad niyo sa Palawan ay hindi nababalewala—as we all know, taxes are lifeblood of the government. Without taxes, hindi magpa-function ang ating gobyerno, malaking tulong buwis niyo na naibabayad sa Palawan,” he said.

The tax campaign serves as a reminder to taxpayers of the importance of their compliance with tax obligations for the improvement of services, infrastructure, and the overall well-being of the community.

This year’s campaign is aligned with the theme “Sa Tamang Buwis, Pag-asenso ay Mabilis.” Molina aims to also attain excellent collection performance in 2024.

The bureau also recognized the top three taxpayers in the province for individual, non-individual, and government agencies’ categories. Under individual taxpayers, William Rojo Teng is recognized as the top taxpayer, followed by Madeline Ollet Arambulo and Bernardo Go, Jr.

The Palawan Electric Cooperative is the top taxpayer in the non-individual category, followed by Pamalican Resorts, Inc. in the top 2 and Ten Knots Philippines, Inc. in the top 3.

Under national government units and agencies, BIR gave recognition to the Department of Education (DepEd), the Provincial Government of Palawan, the City Government of Puerto Princesa, and the first to third districts of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

“Walang kaduda-duda na kayang abutin ang collection target ngayong 2024— mataas man ang goal na nabigay sa atin pero nandito ang ating mga business taxpayers, local government para tumulong,” he added.

The local revenue office has a target collection of P4.89 billion for the year 2024. (RG/PIA Mimaropa - Palawan)
