Newly installed OCD NCR chief co-leads NCR disaster council

PASIG CITY, (PIA) -- The Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MMDRRMC) convened its first quarter meeting for 2024 on March 19 at the New MMDA Building in Pasig City, with newly installed Office of Civil Defense-National Capital Region (OCD-NCR) Regional Director George Keyser co-leading the session in his first official act.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Acting Chairman Atty. Romando S. Artes chaired the meeting, joined by Keyser serving as the Senior Vice-Chair.

Other attendees included MMDA representatives Atty. Victor Pablo C. Trinidad and Atty. Crisanto C. Saruca Jr., along with regional directors, council member representatives, and local disaster risk reduction and management office heads.

During the meeting, the Council approved a resolution supporting data gathering for the Compendium of NCR’s Environmental Statistics using the 2013 Framework for the Development of Environment Statistics (FDES).

Discussions also included a proposed resolution on institutionalizing a Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) Team and a Regional Project Validation and Evaluation/ Monitoring Team (RPVET-MET) in NCR.

The meeting also featured updates on the NCR Contingency Plan for Earthquake, the 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill scheduled on March 25 at 9:00 a.m.; resolutions from local government units (LGUs) supporting the Magna Carta for DRRM Workers; the impact of El Niño 2024 on water supply; progress on the council’s four thematic areas, and various other council concerns.
