LA TRINIDAD,Benguet (PIA) -- The Environmental Management Bureau in the Cordillera region is reaching out to schools in the municipality of Sablan in Benguet through its EnviReading Caravan.

The caravan is an initiative of the Environmental Education and Information Unit of the EMB which is organized in  partnership with schools. It is a reading activity using stories focused on solid waste management and climate change.

The EMB team recently visited the Jose Gonzales Elementary School in Bagong, Sablan where information officer Mary Claire Luminang served as “reading ambassador”. She read stories focused on climate change, and solid waste management.

The EnviReading caravan also supports the Department of Education’s Catch-Up Fridays wherein schools in the country are required to dedicate at least a half day per week for reading activities. 

The EMB earlier brought the caravan to the Omas Ampaguey Integrated School in Balluay, Sablan. 

The team will soon visit Yabyabuan Multi-Grade School for the last leg of the EnviReading Caravan: Sablan Edition. 

Aside from  students and school personnel, the EnviReading caravan is participated by barangay officials, and health workers, as well as community members. (JDP/RMC- PIA CAR)
