Iloilo barangay captains to gather for nutrition congress

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- A total of 1,721 punong barangays  in the province of Iloilo will gather for the first time for a nutrition congress on April 10 and 11.

Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO) nutrition program coordinator Leni Causing said the 1st Punong Barangay Nutrition Congress is organized by the IPHO Nutrition Service in partnership with the Iloilo Provincial Federation of Barangay Nutrition Scholars during the recent meeting of the Provincial Nutrition Committee - Provincial Nutrition Technical Working Group.

This is to encourage and foster the barangay captains’ active involvement in investing and prioritizing their nutrition programs as well as in learning and supporting the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2023 – 2028 so that no child will be left behind, according to Causing.

It will also serve as a venue to discuss nutrition issues in the communities and share insights and best practices among village leaders.

Causing said Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos, National Nutrition Council Executive Director Assistant Secretary Azucena Dayanghirang and Gov. Arthur Defensor are among the invited guests for the event.

She also elicited the support of the PNTWG members coming from the different national government agencies and departments at the provincial capitol to make the gathering more engaging

and beneficial to participants citing theirimportant role in attaining better nutrition in the province.

“Punong Barangays: Championing Nutrition towards MoRProGRes Iloilo” is the theme of the two-day event. MoRProGRes which stands for “Movement for a Robust, Progressive and Globally Competitive and Resilient Province of Iloilo is a “whole province approach” to realize the province’s social justice agenda.
