STA. BARBARA, Pangasinan, Mar. 19 (PIA) -- The provincial government of Pangasinan will be holding its first-ever film festival as part of the Pista’y Dayat (Sea Festival) celebration in April 2024.
Aspiring Pangasinan filmmakers are invited and encouraged to join the Film Making Workshop scheduled from April 6-8 at the Sison Auditorium in Lingayen town.
Anchored in “Pangasinan Through the Lens of the Pangasinense,” the free filmmaking workshop in cinematography, directing, documentary production, editing, and writing aims to foster creativity in filmmaking, discover and nurture the talents and skills of locals in this art form, and produce meaningful and high-quality films exclusively crafted in Pangasinan.
Also, it seeks to establish the province as a leading creative hub in the Philippines.
A total of 100 slots are available for the said workshop, ensuring that a diverse array of aspiring filmmakers can benefit from this learning experience.
Individuals interested are advised to email their intent, along with proof of residency or lineage, to pangasine24@gmail.com until March 25 at 11:59 p.m., wherein they can also send their queries in the same email address.
Upon receipt of the registration, the applicant will receive confirmation of registration status through email no later than March 27.
Meanwhile, the PangaSINE Film Festival, the official Film Festival of the province of Pangasinan, opened its doors to entries for both narrative and documentary films showcasing Pangasinan or its people.
Five narrative and five documentary films will be shortlisted, with the announcement of selected films communicated through email by Sunday, March 24.
“The event hopes to source, curate, and exhibit 10 outstanding short films by homegrown filmmakers and conduct short courses for students or individuals in story writing, screen/scriptwriting, producing, directing, cinematography/principal photography, sound editing and design, film/video editing, and film appreciation,” as cited from the project proposal presented by Pangasinan Information and Media Relations Officer Dhobie de Guzman.
Filmmakers whose works are chosen must submit a high-resolution copy of their film, along with the trailer, poster, and any other required information.
Likewise, the festival expects to showcase four essential elements, including narratives from the past that significantly influenced today’s Pangasinense; the vibrant and ever-changing culture of Pangasinan; storytelling techniques that blend the traditional and modern approaches; and the hopes, dreams, triumphs, and challenges of today’s Pangasinense, especially the youth.
