NAGA CITY, Camarines Sur (PIA) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has launched a program in Bicol integrating the Water Access, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Program with the Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP) in Children Development Centers (CDCs).
The initiative aims to train children development workers (CDWs) in promoting good sanitation practices among SFP beneficiaries and fostering a behavior shift towards proper hygiene.

The inaugural training was held in the town of Del Gallego in Camarines Sur from March 12 to 14.
Ma. Cristina Florendo, SFP regional focal person, said the training. enhances CDWs' skills and knowledge to care for children.
Integrating WASH practices ensures children's health, she said.
“CDWs will advocate this message among parents and local communities,” she added.
Florendo said the first 50 trained CDWs from Del Gallego will lead advocacy efforts.

The DSWD will extend the campaign to the remaining five provinces in the region in May after finalizing activities under the SFP.
Edcel Sotton, the person in charge of the program of Del Gallego municipal government, has pledged to educate learners on the proper way of washing their hands.
The aim is to instill good hygiene habits in them, which they can later apply at home.

This is expected to help prevent the spread of diseases in the community.
The program's ultimate goal is to change the learning pattern so that parents can also benefit from their children's knowledge, particularly regarding WASH.
The #WashandLearn initiative uses a creative and fun approach called the shop play method to teach this knowledge.
Through this method, the program hopes to encourage students and parents to adopt the same approach when conducting the modules in every barangay. (PIA 5/Camarines Sur)
