MALAYBALAY CITY (PIA) -- The Presidential Communications Office (PCO), along with its attached agencies, held a two-day Community Campus Caravan at the Bukidnon State University (BukSU)  with a mission to enlighten, engage, and prepare young minds to become truth-seekers in a digital world through engaging forums and interactive activities.

PCO attached agencies such as Radio Television Malacanang (RTVM), Philippine News Agency (PNA), and Freedom of Information (FOI), and the Bureau of Communication Services set up booths that showcased their respective roles in the government's communication machinery, opening the door for students to see behind the scenes and get a glimpse into the workings of public discussions.

The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) demonstrated its distinct strategy for media information literacy. 

PIA  installed interactive displays that demonstrate to students the value of credible information in today's tech-savvy generation, while also displaying puppetry's long-lasting value as a learning tool. 

The puppeteers' captivating performances blend fun and knowledge, engaging audiences of all ages.

The People's Television Network (PTV) and Radyo Pilipinas (formerly Radyo ng Bayan) transformed the corners of the university's gymnasium into makeshift studios, broadcasting live interviews and discussions. Their team engaged with eager students and faculty, stirring them to voice their opinions and share their stories. 

PCO is the lead communications arm of the government and the primary source of the administration's messages for an informed and empowered citizenry.

PCO Secretary Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil said in her recorded message that the event demonstrates the government's commitment to establishing open communication while equipping young Filipinos with the critical skills to evaluate information in a constantly changing media environment.

“Ang Community Campus Caravan ay isang espesyal na pagkakataon para sa ating lahat na makiisa at magkaroon ng masusing talakayan at pagbibigay diin sa ugnayan ng pamahalaan at ng mga komunidad. Binuo natin ito upang tingnan ang kahalagahan ng government communications at maipakita kung paano ang PCO ay magiging tulay sa pagitan ng ating pamahalaan at ng mamamayan,” she said. 

[The Community Campus Caravan offers us an avenue to gather and engage in in-depth discussions on the ties between government and communities. We initiated this to emphasize the importance of government communications and show how PCO can link government and its citizens.]

Garafil explained that education goes beyond the classroom walls. It extends into the larger community, cultivating a culture of learning and exploration that soars beyond the reach of textbooks and lectures.

"Therefore, effective government communication is integral. The Presidential Communications Office's collaboration with various sectors ensures the effective dissemination of accurate information and messages. We encourage everyone to participate in the Community Campus Caravan program.
