Nueva Vizcaya disaster council intensifies anti-drunk driving law enforcement

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) — The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) of Nueva Vizcaya has tapped the assistance of partner national government agencies to step up the campaign against violators of the Republic Act No. 10586, or the “Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013”.

Nueva Vizcaya Gov. Jose Gambito, who also chairs the PDRRMC, urged law enforcers to aggressively enforce the law for the protection and welfare of Novo Vizcayanos, especially the youth.

He also advised the personnel of the Land Transportation Office, Philippine National Police, and Highway Patrol Groups to run after violators, especially at night.

Gambito’s order was made due to the increasing number of vehicular accidents related to drunk driving which claimed lives and or limbs in the province.

Last year, the PDRRM office reported 1,775 vehicular accidents that were properly responded and assisted in partnership with the municipal DRRM offices and volunteer civic organizations.

Gambito said the PDRRMC will also buy alcoholic breath analyzers to be used by law enforcers and medical workers in public hospitals as part of the implementation of the anti-drunk driving law.

The strict implementation of the law is one of the approved measures of the PDRRMC as part of its preparations for the upcoming Holy Week observance next week which will be sustained onward.

“The upcoming Holy Week is expected to draw a huge number of commuters within and coming in and out of the province. So we will be alert on this,” Gambito said.

Officials of the PNP also vowed to deploy their 80 LTO-deputized personnel to help in the intensified implementation of the “Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013”.

“I am appealing to our fellow Novo Vizcayanos to follow the discipline ‘If you drink, don’t drive. If you drive, don’t drink. Let us all cooperate to ensure our safety and the safety of others while driving on the road,” Gambito added. (OTB/BME/PIA NVizcaya)
