Women in uniform honored at 2024 OWLENS Award ceremony

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- The 2024 Outstanding Women in Law Enforcement and National Security (OWLENS) awarding ceremony on Thursday lauded the exceptional contributions of women protecting the Philippines.

Held at the QC Sports Club, the event brought together dignitaries and representatives from various sectors to celebrate the courage and dedication of these awardees.

Secretary Benjamin "Benhur" C. Abalos Jr. of the Department of Interior and Local Government served as the Guest of Honor and Speaker. Other distinguished attendees included Secretary Lorenzo "Larry" G. Gadon, Presidential Adviser on Poverty Alleviation, and Amba Vidal Erfe Querol, Chairman Emeritus of Republic Defenders. Representatives from the armed forces, including high-ranking officials like Gen. Ulysses S. Marquez and PBGen Arnel A. Libed, were also present.

The ceremony was made possible with the support of partners Robinsons Land Corporation and Rhodium 688 Builders, Inc.

Following an invocation and opening remarks, the program featured a presentation highlighting the achievements of each awardee. Undersecretary Epimaco V. Densing, III, of the Department of Education and Chairman of Republic Defenders, delivered a message emphasizing the importance of recognizing these women's contributions.

The central focus of the event was the awarding segment. Outstanding 2024 OWLENS recipients included PMAJ Mae Ann R. Cunanan, Col Arlene A. Fragé (GSC) PA, LTC Cynthia Forteza-Guinto PAF, and several others. Representing the awardees, LTC Cynthia Forteza-Guinto expressed gratitude and highlighted the dedication of all women in law enforcement and national security.

Secretary Abalos, delivering a message on behalf of President Ferdinand Bongbong R. Marcos Jr., commended the awardees for their invaluable service. He emphasized the critical role women play in ensuring national security.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Secretary Abalos was presented with a plaque of appreciation by Chairman Densing and Republic Defenders President Eddie Y. Choa.
