CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga (PIA) –  Kalinga National High School (KNHS) has opened its Teen Center for adolescent health and youth development programs, in partnership with the Tabuk City Population Development Office.

Population Development Officer Jonalyn Kiser said the school-based youth facility is crucial among the young to help them cope with the pressures of growing up, and at the same time, address risks related to mental health problems, and teenage pregnancy.

The center has guidance counseling space for students, and is equipped with musical instruments, games, arts and learning materials.

KNHS principal Mildred Cabay acknowledged the city local government for looking into the welfare of students amid the social issues confronting the youth.

Students, teachers, schools, and local officials signed a pledge of commitment to support the Teen Center, and adolescent health and development programs.

Last year, a similar facility was opened at the Tabuk City National High School just in time the city health office reported increasing cases of mental health problems and suicide among the youth. 

Meanwhile, Acting City Mayor Dick Bal-o called on students to focus on their studies, and avoid too much unguided exposure to social media.
