DOT program showcased Pangasinan’s cultural heritage, traditional products

DAGUPAN CITY (PIA) — The Department of Tourism (DOT) rolled out its Philippine Exchange Program (PEP) in Pangasinan on Thursday, March 21 aimed at showcasing cultural heritage and traditional products of the province as part of efforts to bolster tourism throughout the Philippines.


The PEP is a flagship project of the DOT led by Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco, aiming to promote heritage and products that highlight the essence and identity of Filipino culture.


Assistant Secretary for Tourism Regulation, Coordination, and Resource Regulation Maria Rica Bueno stated that DOT is truly committed and dedicated to highlighting the rich culture, creativity, and craftsmanship that define identity.


“Under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and of course DOT Secretary Christina Frasco, we are pushing forward for highlighting the Filipino brand,” she said.


Both foreign and local tourists had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Pangasinan’s history, cuisine, and culture renowned for its vibrant traditions, colorful festivals, and warm hospitality.


In Lingayen town, tourists had the opportunity to visit the iconic Provincial Capitol Building, indulge in traditional cuisine at the Sison Auditorium, and delve into the exhibits of the Banaan Museum.


The initial stop on the Pangasinan tour begins in Pangasinan Provincial Capitol in Lingayen town where guests acquire knowledge about the history of the province.

• Pangasinan Provincial Capitol

The Pangasinan Capitol Building, an iconic symbol of governance and heritage, serves as the seat of the provincial government, blending modern design with historical motifs to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the province while reflecting its commitment to progress and development.


It hosts official events and cultural celebrations, embodying public service and civic pride.

• Sison Auditorium

After exploring the Capitol Building, guests savored traditional Pangasinan dishes, featuring bagoong, bibingka, puto, and suman, among others.


Sison Auditorium is a versatile venue in Pangasinan, hosting cultural performances, conferences, and public gatherings with its modern facilities.


Over the years, it has promoted arts, culture, and community engagement, enriching the province’s vibrant cultural scene.

• Banaan Museum

The Banaan Museum preserves and showcases the province’s rich heritage; it features exhibits on Pangasinan’s culture, including traditions, arts, and historical artifacts.


Visitors explore a diverse collection, offering insight into the province’s past and present.


As an educational and cultural hub, the museum promotes appreciation for Pangasinan’s history and identity.


Through its exhibits, it fosters pride in the province’s cultural heritage among locals and visitors.

Meanwhile, tourists embarked on a spiritual journey as they experienced the tranquil beauty of the St. Vincent Ferrer Prayer Park in their last destination in Bayambang town.


• St. Vincent Ferrer Prayer Park

The St. Vincent Ferrer Prayer Park in Pangasinan is a revered pilgrimage site.


Nestled amid lush greenery, it boasts a towering statue of St. Vincent Ferrer, attracting visitors for prayer and reflection.


This tranquil sanctuary hosts religious events and gatherings, drawing pilgrims and devotees.

“I’ve been to Pangasinan many times, and I didn’t know these tourist attractions existed. My experiences here were truly beautiful,” said AJ Raymundo, a 21-year-old resident in Taguig City.


“We hope that throughout your journey, you have discovered what Region One has to offer,” DOT Region 1 Director Joseph Francisco Ortega said.
