Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park to celebrate Araw ng Taraw in April

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan (PIA) -- The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park (PPRSNP) will mark its 53rd founding anniversary as a national park in the celebration of Araw ng Taraw in April.

Park Superintendent Elizabeth Maclang said during the Kapihan sa PIA that the anniversary was originally scheduled for March 26 but moved to the first week of April to make way for the observance of Holy Week.

The management is looking into the possibility of holding the activity on April 4 or 5 at Sitio Sabang, Barangay Cabayugan.

“53 years ng pagkokonserba ng parke at ngayon ay nasa ganitong estado pa rin tayo. Iniingatan natin siya na ma-maintain ‘yong outstanding universal value at ecological integrity ng park kahit maliit lang ‘yong parke natin,” she said.

The PPRSNP was established as a national park by virtue of Proclamation No. 835 issued by the late President Ferdinand Marcos on March 26, 1971.

The lineup of activities includes massive cleanups in the Cabayugan River to clean up the debris caused by heavy rains, followed by a book launch. There will also be a beach party at night for the locals residing within the park.

“Hindi pa namin naubos ‘yong debris na natumba, mga punong naanod during heavy rains. Invited diyan ang lahat ng stakeholders ng park, kaya ito na ‘yong panahon ng pagsasama-sama talaga,” she said.

Kapihan sa PIA is a program by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Mimaropa, streaming live on PIA Mimaropa and PIA Palawan's Facebook pages. (RG/PIA Mimaropa - Palawan)
