Abra loom weavers, bamboo craft makers benefit from gov’t aid

BANGUED, Abra (PIA) -- Loom weavers and bamboo craft makers in the province of Abra are thankful for the livelihood assistance they recently received from the national government.


Luis Agaid, a loom weaver and natural dye producer from Namarabar in Peñarrubia, said the assistance will help not only the direct beneficiaries but also the weaving communities, and the weaving industry of the province as a whole.

“Di tayo kuma papaayen daytoy ayat ti DOLE ken ni Senator Loren Legarda tapno maipakita tayo nga datayo nga benepisario ditoy Abra ket adda pagdurasan nga ipaay na daytoy intayo inawat,” he shared.


[Let us not disappoint  the DOLE (Department of Labor and Employment) and Senator Loren Legarda. Let us show that for us, beneficiaries of Abra, there’s improvement from the assistance we received.]  


The seven beneficiaries from barangays Udangan and Bulbulala in La Paz, and barangay Namarabar in Peñarrubia received various threads and loom weaving, and bamboo craft equipment amounting to a total of P208,892.

DOLE Abra provincial head Christopher Tugadi shared that the assistance is from the Office of Sen. Legarda, in partnership with the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program. 


“Agyaman kami ta napili ni Senator Legarda daytoy programa mi nga DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program nga nangipasukan na ti daytoy assistance na para kanyayo,” he said.


[We are grateful that Senator Legarda chose to provide assistance to you through the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program.]


He explained that the DILP aims to assist beneficiaries to start their livelihood, enhance it, and restore it in case it is affected by disasters. 


“Daytoy DILP ket agtultuloy dayta nga program ti DOLE. Haan lang loom weavers ti target ti tulong no diket amin nga informal sectors,” he added.
