DOST calls for applications for 2024 Junior Level Science Scholarship

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Region 1 is now accepting applications for the Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS) Program until May 31, 2024.

All regular second-year college students pursuing science and technology (S&T) courses in partner colleges and universities are eligible to apply.

According to Nikko Ofo-Ob, Project Technical Assistant IV of DOST-Region 1, JLSS aims not only to support the education of deserving third-year college students but more so, to ensure the steady and adequate supply of science and technology human resources that could help in steering the country towards national progress.

“Beneficiaries of this scholarship program will be giving a return of service to the Philippines,” Ofo-Ob said in an episode of the Kapihan sa Ilocos of the Philippine Information Agency-Regional Office 1.

He added, “The student’s number of the year(s) as a scholar will be the equivalent year(s) of service he/she needs to render for the country.”

Some of the priority fields of study are engineering, agriculture, basic and applied sciences, and science and mathematics teaching.

The full list of priority courses and identified partner schools in the country are posted at the official website of DOST-Science Education Institute at https://ugrad.science-scholarships.ph.

Aspiring scholars must have a general weighted average of at least 83 percent or its equivalent with no conditional or failing mark from all the previous semesters.

Scholars of the said program will be entitled to a P8,000 monthly living allowance; a P10,000 per year allowance for learning materials and connectivity; a P10,000 thesis allowance; and a P1,000 graduation allowance.

On the other hand, scholars enrolled in private higher education institutions will be given P40,000 a year for tuition and other school fees.
