Ilocos police boost security for Holy Week, summer

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) – The Police Regional Office 1 (PRO-1) is ramping up security for a safe and peaceful observance of Holy Week and the upcoming summer season.

To achieve this, a total of 2,707 PRO-1 personnel are deployed across the Ilocos Region.

This includes an additional 201 personnel from the National Support Unit and 1,064 from the Regional Reactionary Standby Support Force (RRSSF).

PRO-1 Regional Director, Police Brigadier General Lou Evangelista, highlighted the role of the RRSSF in bolstering security.

These additional officers will act as a vital support system for existing police units, he said.

This increased police presence will be particularly visible in popular tourist destinations throughout Holy Week and summer break.

The region has been under full alert since March 25, the start of Holy Week, and this will continue until May 31, the end of summer vacation.

Uniformed personnel have already been stationed in churches, popular gathering places, and tourist destinations across the region since the activation of Ligtas Summer Vacation (SumVac) earlier this week.

PRO-1, along with their Regional Committee for Ligtas Summer Vacation 2024, is committed to creating a safe environment for residents and tourists throughout the summer.

PBGEN Evangelista urged the public to cooperate with the police.

The public is encouraged to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest authorities.

PRO-1 hotlines are available 24/7 at 0917-890-7783 or 0920-968-6779.

PBGEN Evangelista assures the public of prompt police service during this busy period.

"We expect many visitors and residents traveling for the Lenten season," said PBGEN Evangelista.

"PRO-1 is committed to maintaining peace and order across the Ilocos Region. We will work hard to prevent incidents and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, especially those observing Holy Week," he added. (JCR/AMB/REB/PIA Region 1)
