Tabuk waste management board proposes opening of landfill cell-2

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga(PIA) -- The City Ecological Solid Waste Management Board proposed for the opening of the city landfill second cell following reports that the  facility in Barangay Dilag is exceeding its capacity.

City Environment and Natural Resources Officer  Salud Lammawin reported  that the city had produced about 6,154 tons of solid waste in 2023.

Some 16.86 tons daily average of waste collected from residences, business establishments and other sources are dumped into the landfill, she said.

With the current  waste volume, and with  Tabuk  as a fast-booming city,  solid waste is expected to even increase in the succeeding years. Existing landfill cell could no longer contain the city’s wastes, Lammawin cautioned.

As a move, the board proposed for the allocation of funds for the expansion of the city’s waste disposal facility. This is a priority need considering the volume of residual wastes generated from Tabuk, the board noted.

Also contained in the move is the aggressive campaign among residents on proper solid waste disposal system.

City Acting Mayor Dick Bal-o expressed support to the move assuring the city-LGU’s action in keeping the city environmentally healthy and waste-free. (LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
