MGB-CAR to conduct intensive IEC on risk exposure maps

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) -- The Mines and Geosciences Bureau in the Cordillera (MGB-CAR) is set to conduct an intensive information education campaign  on the vulnerability risk assessment (VRA) or risk exposure maps in local government units.

MGB CAR Regional Director Fay Apil, during the recent Cordillera Minera Forum here, said they have to explain more about the VRA maps that they distribute to the municipalities and provide them with technical information on risk exposure.

In Cordillera, all the completed VRAs have already been turned over to the concerned LGUs. Only three municipalities  have pending VRA but the MGB hopes to  finish the assessment for these municipalities this year. These are Kabayan, Kibungan, and Bakun in the province of Benguet.

The primary objective of VRA is to assess vulnerability to rain-induced landslides and floods that could potentially harm elements at risk, such as people and infrastructure. The VRA also provides technical support and information to LGUs in updating their Comprehensive Land Use Plan for planning and development,  and for disaster preparedness and management.

"We will be doing intensive IEC kung anong ibig sabihin ng mga mapa na ibinibigay namin kasi karamihan yata, nakikita lang iyong mapa. We have to explain more kung anong ibig sabihin ng mga landslide susceptibility, mga flood susceptibility sa different municipalities and barangays," Apil said.
