Camiguin Water finalizes projects to promote accessible, reliable water services

SAGAY, Camiguin (PIA) -- To enhance water supply and infrastructure in Camiguin, significant projects are in progress, promising improved services for residents across various municipalities. Spearheaded by the Camiguin Water Company (CWC), these initiatives aim to address existing challenges and prepare for future needs.

"Sa kasalukuyan, ang proyektong pang-imprastruktura ng Camiguin Water Company ay ang Bonbon Reinforcement sa Municipality ng Catarman, kung saan mayroong 1,300 na mga household na makikinabang sa proyektong ito," CWC General Manager Jonathan Sarsonas said in a radio interview.

(Currently, the infrastructure project of the Camiguin Water Company is the Bonbon Reinforcement in the Municipality of Catarman, where 1,300 households will benefit from this project.)

Additionally, the project aims to extend water access to previously unserved communities. Sarsonas said the project coincides with plans for a large-scale resort, promising economic opportunities for locals.

The Cantaan-Cabuan Repiping Project in Guinsiliban is also in the works. Moreover, the general manager mentioned that by providing water to 800 homes, this project not only improves water distribution but also the municipality's total infrastructure.

In the future, there are plans to set up a booster pump in Cabuan to serve the needs of those who live at higher elevations. Additionally, CWC is taking measures to reduce non-revenue water (NRW), aiming to serve the entire service area. These measures aim to reduce water loss in the system, resulting in increased water pressure and improved customer service.

In response to concerns about the resilience of water infrastructure to calamities and climate change, the company ensures adherence to strict building codes. Sarsonas stated that CWC constructs infrastructure projects with resilience in mind, considering potential hazards. Rigorous oversight during the building phase guarantees compliance with safety regulations, thereby protecting the integrity of the infrastructure and public safety.

"Ang Camiguin Water ay sumusunod sa nakasanayang mga pamantayan sa konstruksyon ng mga water infrastructure. Sa pamamagitan nito, nasisigurado natin na ang disenyo ng mga imprastruktura ay makakapanatiling matibay sa harap ng mga kalamidad at pagbabago ng klima," sabi ni Sarsonas.

(Camiguin Water follows the standard protocol for the construction of water infrastructure. Through this, we ensure that the design of the infrastructure can withstand disasters and the impacts of climate change.)

With these concerted efforts, Sarsonas added that Camiguin is positioned to benefit from enhanced water services, strengthening both livelihoods and community resilience against environmental challenges. (RTP/PIA-10)
