Zambo City’s water delivery initiative eases water shortage woes in Barangays

ZAMBOANGA CITY (PIA) – Zamboanga City's local government continues its efforts to address water scarcity issues plaguing several barangays, a consequence of the prolonged dry spell gripping the city.

Mayor John Dalipe has spearheaded the deployment of City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) water tankers ensuring a consistent supply of water from Mondays to Sundays, including holidays.

This proactive approach aims to mitigate the challenges faced by residents in areas experiencing reduced service hours or even complete water unavailability due to the El Niño phenomenon.

The Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD) has recorded a notable decline in its daily water production capacity, necessitating extended water rationing hours across the east, west, and central zones of the city. The affected barangays, including Campo Islam, San Jose Gusu, Calarian, Sinunuc, Maasin, Cawit, Tulungatung, Arena Blanco, Mampang, Talon Talon, Kasanyangan, Sta. Maria, Cabatangan, Cabaluay, and Malagutay, have benefited from the city government's water delivery initiatives.

Dannilyn, a resident of Barangay Talon-Talon grappling with water rationing, shared her frustrations regarding the limited water availability in their area. She expressed her dismay at the situation, highlighting the challenges they face, such as receiving water supply only once every four days. “Mahirap talaga kasi mahaba ang pila sa pag-igib ng tubig lalo na kapag tirik ang araw dahil sa mainit na panahon,” she said.

("It's really difficult because the lines for fetching water are long, especially during scorching hot days," she said, emphasizing the added hardships brought about by the intense heat.”)

To ensure efficient water distribution, the ZCDRRMO encourages residents facing water shortages to coordinate with their respective barangay councils promptly. This collaboration enables targeted water delivery efforts to reach areas most in need.

In addition to the ZCDRRMO's contributions, the Bureau of Fire Protection has also lent support by deploying five fire trucks for water delivery to government offices and other critical facilities. (RVC/EDT/MLE/PIA9-Zamboanga City)
