DAR inks agreement with ARBs to boost cacao production in Zambo Sibugay

PAYAO, Zamboanga Sibugay (PIA) – The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Zamboanga Sibugay provincial office recently signed a memorandum of agreement with the Upper Sumilong Community Multipurpose Cooperative (USCOMPC) aimed at enhancing the livelihoods of cacao farmers.

This endeavor hoped to bolster the cacao production of the cooperative and empower agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs), uplifting the cacao industry and the livelihoods of local farmers.

Lolito B. Loberanes, chairman of USCOMPC, expressed his appreciation for the initiative, emphasizing that the grant will help boost their production and eventually improve the lives of the beneficiaries.

“We are thankful for this effort because this is a big help not just to our production but most importantly to the lives of the members,” Loberanes said.

The agreement outlines the allocation of P500,000 for infrastructure support aimed at rehabilitating and renovating facilities within the cooperative. This investment will directly benefit 156 ARBs and is designated to improve the cooperative's processing center, specifically focusing on making cacao nibs and cacao powder products.

DAR and various stakeholders underscored the importance of collaboration in driving sustainable agricultural development. Their endorsement signifies a commitment to ensuring the success of the project and the prosperity of the community.
