CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga (PIA) – The Department of Social Work and Development (DSWD) is implementing a cash-for-work program that targets 500 graduates of the Kalinga State University (KSU).
The short-term intervention aims to support local graduates while they search for a more stable job. At the same time, it will provide them with relevant work experience that employers require from job applicants.
“The goal is to give them temporary employment while they are looking for greener pastures,” De Guzman said.
He presented the program to local officials and stakeholders during the monthly kapehan meeting at the provincial capitol on April 1.
Eligible for the program are KSU graduates from 2022 to 2024. They will work for 90 days, and will be paid a wage of P430 per day. They will be deployed in national government agencies and local government units across Kalinga. said De Guzman.
The orientation of target beneficiaries and stakeholders is set for April 4, as the DSWD targets to start implementation this month.
Funded through the initiative of Sen. Imee Marcos, the cash-for-work aid is being implemented under DSWD’s Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services, or the KALAHI-CIDSS program.
The initial roll-out last year targeted 500 beneficiaries each from Benguet State University, and the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College, according to De Guzman.
Aside from KSU, 500 graduates of Ifugao State University are also expected to benefit from the program in 2024. (JDP/ISO-PIA Kalinga)
