CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga (PIA) – A total of 3,695 households in the province of Kalinga are benefitting from various infrastructure projects implemented through the community-driven poverty alleviation program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

DSWD Cordillera regional program coordinator Gian Carlo De Guzman said 20 sub-projects under the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) program have been completed as of March 27 in Tabuk City, Lubuagan, Pasil, Pinukpuk, and Rizal.

Among these projects are roads, flood control facilities, water systems, daycare centers, footpaths, community centers or multi-purpose halls, slope protection facilities, perimeter fences, health stations, small-scale irrigation, and evacuation centers.

Meanwhile, 34 other sub-projects for 2024 with a total cost of P30.5 million are in the initial stage of implementation, De Guzman reported.

The KALAHI-CIDSS program is designed to empower communities by actively involving them in all the activities of the project – from identifying the community’s most pressing needs to designing project proposals to implementation and evaluation.

According to the DSWD website, municipalities are eligible for up to four cycles or rounds of implementation.

A municipality “graduates” from the program after the fourth cycle, at which point, it is expected to have increased management capabilities of its internal resources, and can leverage for external funding.
