Police: Peaceful ‘Semana Santa’ observed in Iloilo

ILOILO CITY -- This year’s observance of Holy Week in Iloilo province is generally peaceful, according to the police authorities here

A report from the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) stated that there were no major incidents recorded from March 24 (Palm Sunday) until March 31 (Easter Sunday) especially that the police forces have maintained maximum police presence in key areas.

Further, all police units in the province have been placed under full alert status as part of the security coverage to prevent any criminal activities, respond quickly to any emergencies, and guarantee public safety.

Cops were deployed to conduct mobile patrols and to man police assistance desks in key areas such as churches, pilgrimage sites, parks, resorts, and public transportation hubs.

The IPPO also worked closely with local government units, national government agencies, barangay officials, and force multipliers to ensure coordinated and prompt response to any security concerns.

PCol Ronaldo Palomo, for his part, recognized the support and cooperation of the Ilonggos in maintaining peace and order during Holy Week.

“Ensuring a peaceful and meaningful observance of Semana Santa was a challenge for us but because of your active support and full cooperation, our religious activities ended without any significant disruptions,” Palomo said. (AAL/LMLE/PIA Iloilo/IPPO)
