MANILA, (PIA) -- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Department of Energy (DOE) have joined forces to expedite the implementation of projects funded by the Renewable Energy Trust Fund (RETF).

The RETF, established under the 2008 Renewable Energy Act, aims to promote wider use of renewable energy sources. It collects funds from various sources, including a portion of the net annual income of institutions like the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).

So far, the DOE has collected P209,984,504.22, primarily from these sources. The new agreement between DOST and DOE outlines how the fund will be used and details areas of collaboration.

DOST's expertise in science, technology, and innovation will be crucial in driving the development and adoption of new renewable energy solutions. The partnership aims to conduct research, showcase cutting-edge technologies, and pilot innovative approaches to advance the sector.

DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum, Jr. expressed optimism about the collaboration, highlighting both agencies' dedication to promoting renewable energy initiatives.

Solidum emphasized DOST's commitment to research and development that will shape the future of Philippine innovation and provide solutions for a sustainable future.

DOE Secretary Raphael Perpetuo Lotilla, on his part, affirmed the department's full cooperation with DOST.

This partnership is expected to accelerate progress towards a more sustainable and energy-efficient future for the Philippines. (DOST/PIA-NCR)
