CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) -- The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), in partnership with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), has transcended geographical barriers to extend essential services to remote indigenous communities in Occidental Mindoro.

A total of 190 Indigenous Peoples (IPs) were successfully registered to the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) through a registration drive in Sitio Baruganti, and Barangay Alacaak in the municipality of Sta. Cruz; Sitio Lipaklakoy, and Barangay Pag-asa in the municipality of Sablayan.

Despite the formidable challenges posed by the region’s rugged terrain and logistical complexities, Julito Garcia, Officer-in-Charge of NCIP in Occidental Mindoro, underscored the agencies’ unwavering commitment to inclusivity and empowerment. 

In a press release, PSA emphasized its aim to leave no IPs in Occidental Mindoro behind, empowering them through the initiative and fostering a sense of belonging and inclusion.

“The initiative is paving the way for a more equitable and inclusive society by bridging gaps and reaching out to marginalized communities. And with each registration, we are not just recording data; we are affirming the presence and significance of every individual within the community,” stated PSA.

In a remarkable testament to PSA’s dedication, a total of 13,654 IPs have been registered in the province of Occidental Mindoro from October 2021-March 23, 2024, marking progress towards inclusive development. (PSA/GATS/PIA MIMAROPA)
