82nd Araw ng Kagitingan celebration to rekindle heroism inspired by Filipino veterans

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) – The Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) in La Union is calling on residents to honor the province's veterans during this year's 82nd Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) celebration.

The national holiday, themed "Pagpaparangal sa Kagitingan ng mga Beterano: Saligan ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino", remembers veterans whose sacrifices secured the country's freedom.

"This celebration also aims to strengthen our collective sense of national pride and instill a deep sense of patriotism in our youth, preparing them as future defenders," said Adeadatus Retuta, head of PVAO La Union.

The commemoration will be held on April 9, 2024, at 8:00 AM at the United States Armed Forces in the Philippines-North Luzon Shrine and Park in Barangay Darigayos, Luna, La Union.

Around 300 people, including veterans, their families, and local police, are expected to attend.

PVAO La Union, together with the Provincial Government of La Union, La Union Police Provincial Office, and the Municipal Government of Luna, will lead the activities.

These include a flag-raising ceremony and a wreath-laying ceremony.

The La Union Provincial Health Office (PHO) will conduct a free medical and dental mission for veterans and their dependents after the commemoration rites.

The Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) will provide self-care services like haircuts, manicures, and pedicures.

A "Kadiwa ng Pangulo" store will showcase products from local farmers and fisherfolk for visitors to purchase.

PVAO reaffirms its commitment to the well-being of veterans, soldiers, and civilian human resources by extending benefits such as hospitalization. (JCR/AMB/KJCR/KKLG, PIA La Union)
