Benguet irrigators receive support thru TUPAD

Irrigators recieve their wages during a payout under the TUPAD. (NIA-CAR)

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) – More than a hundred irrigators in Benguet benefited from the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD).
 
At least 98 irrigators received wages during the series of payouts conducted recently in five municipalities under the TUPAD program as part of the convergence initiatives of the National Irrigators Administration – Cordillera with the Department of Labor and Employment – CAR Regional Office.
 
A total of P632,100.00 was distributed to the beneficiaries who are members of   irrigators’ associations in the municipalities of Kapangan, Atok, Kabayan, Buguias, and Kibungan.

In March, a total of 43 irrigators from the municipalities of Itogon, and Sablan received their TUPAD payout totaling to P277,350.00.
 

The irrigators conducted canal clearing, and maintenance along irrigation facilities of communal and small irrigation systems in their respective municipalities. 

 
The TUPAD wages were downloaded by the DOLE-CAR to NIA-CAR as part of the agreement to implement TUPAD program towards better irrigation service.   


The TUPAD is a community-based emergency employment program of the DOLE that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployment, and seasonal workers for a minimum period of ten days, but not exceeding to 30 days, depending on the nature of work to be performed per DOLE’s guidelines.
  
For 2024, the DOLE has earmarked a total of P10 million for the implementation TUPAD towards better irrigation service which targets to benefit about 1,146 farmer-irrigators in the six provinces of the Cordillera region.(JD/RMC- PIA-CAR with NIA-CAR)
