Malabon schools implement shortened in-person classes due to extreme heat

MANILA, (PIA) -- Public schools in Malabon City will implement shortened in-person classes from April 11 to 19, 2024, due to the anticipated extreme heat brought by El Niño, this was announced by Mayor Jeannie Sandoval on social media.

The decision was issued by Malabon City Schools Division Superintendent Cecille G. Carandang in a memorandum on April 10, 2024.

Under the new schedule:

Time                                   Shift
6:00 AM to 10:00 AM        Morning
2:00 PM to 6:00 PM          Afternoon

Schools will resort to asynchronous or modular classes to ensure students meet the required learning hours.

In-person classes will be suspended entirely if the heat index reaches 42 degrees Celsius or higher. All teaching and learning activities will then shift to asynchronous or modular modalities.

"The safety and well-being of our students and teachers is our top priority," Carandang said in the memorandum.

"These measures are being implemented to prevent heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses."

The Schools Division Office will issue separate guidelines for the succeeding weeks. (PIA-NCR)
