Quirino students urged to be responsible users of artificial intelligence

CABARROGUIS, Quirino (PIA)- - The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) here, in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), recently conducted the forum on Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Saint Mary’s Academy (SMA) in Diffun town as one of the highlights of the province’s World Consumer Rights Day celebration.

According to DTI provincial director Mary Ann C. Dy, the forum aims to raise the students’ awareness on responsible Artificial Intelligence and address the growing concerns surrounding the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence in consumer affairs. 

“As Artificial Intelligence becomes increasingly integrated in our daily lives, it is important to know that we, as consumers, are protected from potential discrimination, unfair trade practices, and privacy infringements,” Dy told over 200 students who participated in the event.

Dy emphasized the need for a collective effort from all concerned agencies and sectors to cahampino fair and responsible Artificial Intelligence practices, ensuring that consumers remain protected.

“Increasing public awareness on the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence must be part of the regular advocacy of DTI, DICT and  other consumer organizations,” Dy said, adding that harnessing Artificial Intelligence is a shared responsibility. 




Meanwhile, Karl John Nolasco, an employee of the DICT-Quirino Provincial Office who served as the resource person, discussed algorithmic transparency, data privacy, and the ethical considerations surrounding Artificial Intelligence-driven decision-making processes.
