Siquijor guv backs DepEd sports development program

SIQUIJOR, Siquijor (PIA) -- Siquijor Gov. Jake Vincent Villa has given his support to the sports development efforts of the Department Education (DepEd) as he pushed for more development programs targeting the children and youth of Siquijor.

In his inaugural message during the Provincial Athletic Meet, Villa assured DepEd of budget allocation for the upcoming Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVRAA) meet and thanked the province’s school board for supporting the initiative.

(You will have a 20-day training camp here in our area. We are allocating almost P7 million for the preparation for CVRAA.)

Recognizing the challenges the schools and athletes face without the support, Villa said he will strongly support the athletes and make efforts to build the character of the children for the next generation by providing venues and facilities that will help harness the children's and the youth’s potential.

“Lisod kayo ang mga atleta kung wala’y suporta gikan man lang nato, sa ginikanan, maestra, coaches, and of course sa mga liderato nga naa diri,” he said.

(It is very difficult if our athletes do not have the support from us, parents, teachers, coaches, and of course, government leaders.)

He urged the educators to teach the students the knowledge that they will need for them to build better communities in the future.

“Sila mismo atong future. (They are our future.) With the guidance from us, they will reshape our world, especially our beloved Siquijor,” Villa said.

Villa said that starting May this year, the government is spending P45 million for the island’s sports complex.

”This is not a promise. We are making it right now. For next year, we can use this na sa proper provincial meet para pud sa atoang suporta sa atong mga athletes (as our support to the athletes)," he said.
