CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) -- The Department of Agriculture (DA), and the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) in Mimaropa region presented different techniques, and applications of innovative farming to stakeholders in Oriental Mindoro recently.

NIA MIMAROPA irrigator development officer Jonathan Geron, emphasized key initiatives such as condonation programs, the Free Irrigation Act under NIA R.A. 10969, the Irrigation Management Transfer (IMT) contract, and various convergence programs.

Meanwhile, DA educates the participants on the benefits and applications of utilizing agriculture drones. The agri department underscored how these drones revolutionize farming operations by offering precise and efficient means of monitoring crops, pest control, and even the distribution of seeds and fertilizers.

Several companies also seized the platform to introduce various hybrid seeds designed to thrive in local conditions. These innovative seeds promise higher yields, increased resistance to pests and diseases, and improved adaptability to environmental factors— crucial attributes in ensuring food security and economic prosperity for farming communities.

Pinamalayan Municipal Mayor Hon. Aristeo A. Baldos Jr. took the opportunity to address attendees, emphasizing the significance of modernizing farming techniques to meet the growing demands of the agricultural sector. He highlighted the importance of collaboration between government agencies, farmers, and technology providers in achieving this goal.

A particularly poignant moment came with the testimonies of local farmers, who expressed gratitude for the adoption of drone technology in their farming practices.

They recounted their experiences with using drones for spreading seeds and fertilizers, noting how it has streamlined their operations, reduced labor costs, and ultimately boosted their harvests.

The collaboration between DA and NIA served as a platform for stakeholders to exchange knowledge, ideas, and experiences, driving forward the agricultural sector's evolution towards greater efficiency and sustainability. With continued innovation, the future of farming in Mindoro, and beyond will ensure a bountiful harvest for generations to come. (GATS/PIA MIMAROPA)
