CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) -- Travelers to some of Palawan’s destinations like El Nido and San Vicente now have a new spot to rest and relax as the municipality of Roxas unveils the first-ever Tourist Rest Area (TRA) in their municipality.

This facility is part of a flagship program by the Department of Tourism (DOT), introduced during the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and spearheaded by Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco.

Strategically located to serve the influx of tourists heading towards the northern attractions of Palawan, the new TRA is designed to offer top-notch amenities. Facilities at the rest area include a comfortable lounge area, modern charging stations for devices, spotlessly clean restrooms with shower options, a dedicated lactation room for breastfeeding mothers, an information center to assist tourists, and a pasalubong center. The latter promotes local culture by featuring products and delicacies from local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), giving a boost to the local economy.

The TRA is not just a rest stop but is envisioned as a comprehensive support hub for tourists. The design and operation of the facility reflect the administration’s commitment to boosting tourism while supporting sustainable practices and economic growth in local communities.

The DOT plans to roll out more such facilities in key locations across the country. Each TRA is planned to be a refuge for tourists, making travel in the Philippines more comfortable and enjoyable, thereby attracting more visitors to explore the beautiful islands.

This initiative aligns with President Marcos Jr.’s vision of enhancing infrastructure to support tourism as a vital sector of the economy. (JJGS/PIA Mimaropa)
