TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) - - The Ninth City Council of Tuguegarao City has approved an ordinance allowing the operation of a night market to give more opportunities for micro and small entrepreneurs to sell their products and goods.

Approved Ordinance No. 06-09-2024 states that starting April 12, the Gomez Street, from Bonifacio Street to Magallanes Street, will be utilized as a ‘Tuguegarao Night Market’ area every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The flea market is open from 6 p.m. until midnight.

City Veterinarian and Market Administrator Dr. Pastor Tumaliuan Jr. said that a total of 243 business owners registered for the night market, of which 121 are categorized as non-food owners and 122 are food owners.

Business owners who have stalls at the Tuguegarao City Commercial Center (formerly Mall of the Valley) are charged a P50 registration fee, while non-stall owners are charged P120, according to Tumaliuan.

On its first day of operation on April 12, Tumaliuan said that a total of P18,000 was collected from business owners.

On the other hand, Mayor Maila Ting-Que reminded the stall operators and the public to observe cleanliness during the operations of the night market.

“May we remind all our ‘nighters, both vendors and customers, of their shared responsibility of throwing their leftovers, trashes and wrappers into the trashbins setup by each vendor,” the mayor said.

“The PNP and POSSO are ordered to implement the anti-littering policies of the city, much as they have been actively implementing traffic regulations surrounding the night market area,” she added.  (MDCT/PIA Cagayan)
