Beneficial for senior citizens
For Vicente Ogoc, 85, he said he availed of the BRAP so he could provide the required documents for financial assistance for senior citizens.
“Maoy akong ikapakita kon kinahangkan kini para ayuda,” said Ogoc from Cantaroc B, Maria, Siquijor.
Maria Magdalene Bucol Veradio, 42, of Cangmunag, San Juan is also thankful for the assistance she received from BRAP after she was able to secure a copy of her father’s birth certificate.
"Daghang salamat kay importante jud ni siya. Tanang transaksyon ron kinahanglan man jud ta ug PSA birth certificate. Kanhi kay ang birth certificate nila kato mang kinaraan unya kani mang gyu’y need karon. Mao ng gakugi jud ko nga makakuha ani," said Veradio.
(Thank you very much because this is really important. All transactions now really require a PSA birth certificate. Before, their birth certificate was the old one, but most offices now require the PSA birth certificate. That's why I was really determined to get this.)
Requirements
Currently, around 307 residents here have been registered since its implementation in February 2022, said Postrado.
Seventy residents also received their Security Papers (SECPA) of birth certificate under the BRAP registration.
The program aims to increase the level of birth registrations, especially in marginalized communities such as Indigenous Peoples, Muslim Filipinos, and the poorest sector, to ensure that they can have their Philippine ID (Phil ID) issued, which is a gateway for them to have a legal identity and gain access to the social benefits.
Documents needed for registration are as follows: a negative Omnibus Certificate, completed Affidavit for Delayed Registration attached to the Certificate of Live Birth (COLB), affidavit from two impartial parties; a certificate of indigency issued by the Punong Barangay; and any identification documents, such as driver’s license, national ID card, or barangay certification.
Late registration
Postrado said the project involves extending assistance in processing the late registration of births of the beneficiaries, verifying the existence of birth records in the PSA single registry system database, and facilitating the out-of-town registration of births.
"Dili nata necessarily muadto personally kung asa ta natawo, pwede ta maka-facilitate sa late registration sa atoang birth," she said.
(We don't necessarily have to personally go to where we were born. We can facilitate the late registration of birth.)
The PSA has a system in place during mobile registration to avoid manually typing the information to be placed or patented on the birth certificate, the Philippine Civil Registry Information System (PhilCRIS).
The project is supported by a memorandum of agreement with the local government units (LGUs).
Under the agreement, LGUs will waive the necessary fees for the processing of the late registration of births of the beneficiaries.
“The quality of data will be attained through honest and truthful answers given by the respondents,” she added.
Those who wish to avail of the BRAP can visit the LCR in their area or the PSA office at 3/F Siquijor Business and Convention Center, Poblacion, Siquijor, Siquijor.
