DOLE, partners gear up for first Labor Day celebration in Abra

BANGUED, Abra (PIA) – Laborers and the community in Abra will be benefiting from the different activities lined-up for the first Labor Day celebration in the province.
 
Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Abra provincial head Christopher Tugadi shared that the Labor Day celebration will be highlighted  with a livelihood fair featuring the different programs and services from the DOLE and partners.

“Ang manyayari is para ma-highlight po itong livelihood fair this Labor Day, and I want na this activity is a convergence of the different agencies. Each agency will be extending their services also,” he explained.
 
The Labor Day livelihood fair set on May 1-3, 2024 will showcase the products of at least 20 DOLE beneficiaries.
 
A market on wheels and diskwento caravan will be hosted by the Abra Diocesan Teachers and Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative.
 
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will also hold business counseling, and registration of DTI business name, Barangay Micro Business Enterprise, and small business corporation.


Meanwhile, legal aid courtesy of the Public Attorney's Office will be available for the participants.

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) with technical vocational institutions in the province will also render health and wellness services like manicure, pedicure, haircut, and massage.


A blood donation drive led by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Abra Chapter will be opened for volunteer donors during the during the three-day activity.

Tugadi said that the activity which primarily aims to benefit laborers is also open to the community.
 
“Ang participants natin dito sa activity is not only yung mga manggagawa but lahat lahat na regardless of worker ba siya o hindi basta lahat lahat po, they can participate in this activity,” he added.
 
During the preparatory meeting for the said event, DOLE and partner agencies such as the TESDA, DTI, PNP, PRC, ADTEMPCO, PAO, and the Philippine Information Agency-Abra ironed out the plans and activities for the celebration.
 
The 122nd Labor Day Celebration with the theme “Sa Bagong Pilipinas: Manggagawang Pilipino, Kabalikat at Kasama sa Pag-asenso”  coincides with the golden anniversary of the Labor Code of the Philippines.(JDP/JJPM-PIA Abra)
