Project Waste-Wise facility of Cauayan City inaugurated

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) - Science and Technology Secretary Renato Solidum led the inauguration of the Project Waste-Wise Material Recovery Facility of Cauayan City as part of the 2024 International Smart City Exposition and Networking Engagement (ISCENE) held in the City recently.

The said facility was established in partnership with DOST Region 2 to address the solid waste management problem in the city.

Solidum lauded the initiative of LGU Cauayan for establishing the project which will surely help manage the city's solid wastes.

City Mayor Caesar Dy Jr said the facility was made possible through the assistance extended by DOST and the corporate partner Suki Trading.

“The construction of the MRF for Waste-Wise in Cauayan City will shift the city's waste management system toward circularity for its residents. It will handle waste collection and sorting, as well as the recycling of home and industrial waste and has a daily processing capacity of up to 100 tons of garbage,” Dy said.

Dy further said that by 2025, the city's MRF will create jobs and serve thousands of inhabitants and expected to gather 120,000 metric tons of waste yearly, including 1,500 metric tons of plastic.
