The 17 FCAs include four Irrigators Association (FAs) from Cabarroguis; six Farmers Association, Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MPC) and Irrigators’ Association (IA) from Diffun, four IAs and MPC from Maddela; and two HAs from Saguday.

The said FCAs received one unit of a hand tractor; 11 units of four-wheel drive tractors; five units of walk-behind transplanters; five units of rice combine harvesters, and two units of recirculating dryers.

According to DA Regional Executive Director Rosemary Aquino, the distribution of the machineries and post harvest facilities is under the 2022 and 2023 funds of the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) Mechanization Program of the department.

“The RCEF which was first implemented in Quirino in 2019 has increased the farm mechanization level of the province from 2.38 horsepower per hectare in 2021 or equivalent to 38 percent. With the 2022 and 2023 distribution, we hope to achieve 50 percent level,” Aquino said.

Aquino also said through the farm mechanization and modernization, the problems of farmers on huge losses due to post harvest had been addressed.

She further urged the FCAs to take good care of the machinery and facilities they received as she expressed lament on the result of their assessment last year where a recipient was not able to utilize the farm machinery due to damage of one spare part.

“You are given millions worth of farm machineries which were produced out of people’s money so please take good care of them,”Aquino said, adding that the Philmech provided them capacity building on how to operate and maintain the said machineries. (ALM/TCB/PIA-2, QUIRINO)
