Tri-province boundary operation razes P9.3M worth of marijuana plants

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, April 16  (PIA) -- Around P9.3 million worth of marijuana plants were burned in the tri-boundaries of the provinces of La Union, Ilocos Sur, and Benguet on April 16.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 1 Regional Director Joel B. Plaza said that around 46,600 fully-grown marijuana plants were destroyed from four plantation sites in the tri-boundary. 

“The marijuana plants were destroyed and burned on-site right after the operation,” Plaza said. 

The total land area from the four plantation sites visited during the operation stands at 4,000 square meters, areas that were inspected at around 4:00 a.m.

The inspection was conducted through the convergence effort of the PDEA 1’s Regional Special Enforcement Team (RSET) and the PDEA - Cordillera Administrative Region Land Transportation Interdiction Unit (LTIU).

The operation was also boosted by the coordination and support of the La Union Police Provincial Office - Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (LUPPO- PDEU), the 1st La Union Provincial Mobile Force Company (1st LU PMFC), and the Santol, La Union. 

The plantation sites visited are located in the towns of Santol, La Union, Kibungan, Benguet and Sugpon, Ilocos Sur. (JCR/MJTAB/CCMT, PIA La Union)
