19 PDLs in La Trinidad jails train on cacao processing

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) -- The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) continues to empower Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) to help them successfully reintegrate into  society  after serving their term.

The La Trinidad District Jail Female Dormitory (LTDJ-FD) initiated a cacao processing training program on April 3-5, which was participayed by 19 PDLs at the male and female dorms of the La Trinidad District Jail and La Trinidad Municipal  Jail.

A PDL, who trained on cacao processing, served as their trainor.

She  taught the process of producing cacao products such as cacao brittle, herbal tea, organic tea, and cacao chocolate.

"Nakita ko kasi na needed ito sa mga nandito sa loob para paglabas nila may malalaman sila na pangkabuhayan. Kahit papaano, kahit nandito sila, marami silang matututunan. Paglabas nila ay mai-apply nila para sa pagbabago ng kanilang buhay," the PDL trainor said.

The  training was   part of the various programs of the BJMP, in partnership with other agencies and organizations, to provide the PDLs with new skills, and broaden their horizons while inside the correctional facility, and in their aim to transform the lives of the PDLs and build a safer nation.

"The main objective is to conduct a training for our PDLs to avoid reoffending, and also a chance for them to come up with business venture when they would be reintegrated into the society. So ang training na ito ay malaking tulong for our PDLs to earn income here in jail while they are detained," LTDJ-FD acting jail warden SJO4 Euglenna Loquio said.

She  extended their heartfelt gratitude to the people behind the success of the program.

The training was in collaboration with BJMP Cordillera, the  Department of Trade and Industry Baguio-Benguet through the Negosyo Center La Trinidad, and  the Office of the Vice Governor.  JDP/DEG/PIA CAR -Jester Batanes, BSU Intern) (Photos: Jester Batanes)
