IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay (PIA) – The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) recently held a voter education and registration fair at the Universidad de Zamboanga Ipil campus.

Participants were senior high school and college students from the said school, underscoring the significance of registering and actively participating in the democratic process.

John Paul Cubero, the provincial election supervisor, highlighted the critical role of youth involvement in shaping the nation's future through their votes. 

"It is through our voice as voters that we hold our elected officials accountable for their actions or inaction, for that matter," Cubero said.

Christopher Coquilla, a graduating business administration student, expressed gratitude for COMELEC's decision to hold the event at their campus, acknowledging its potential to instill a sense of responsibility among the younger generation. 

"We are thankful that Comelec chose our school for this initiative because it will instill in us the importance of voting, especially us, the youth, who are considered our country's future," Coquilla said.

The fair featured interactive sessions designed to educate students about the electoral process, voter registration procedures, and the significance of their participation in shaping the nation's democratic landscape. 

As the upcoming elections draw near, initiatives like these play a crucial role in ensuring that the youth are well-informed and motivated to exercise their right to vote. By empowering young minds with knowledge and understanding of their civic duties, COMELEC aims to cultivate a generation of responsible and engaged citizens who will actively participate in shaping the future of the nation.
