Gingoog City celebrates National Solo Parent Week

GINGOOG CITY, Misamis Oriental (PIA) -- The city government of Gingoog through its City Social Welfare Department (CSWD) joined the nation in observing National Solo Parent Week 2024 with the theme “Solo Parent na Rehistrado, Sa Gobyerno Tiyak na Protektado.”

Republic Act No. 11861, also known as the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act, designates the third week of April for Solo Parent Week and the third Saturday for National Solo Parent Day each year.

Acknowledging the resilience of solo parents who navigate the challenges of raising and providing for their children independently, CSWD Family Welfare Focal Person Cindy Doque commended their strength and determination. “The department recognizes their sacrifices to raise and care for their children independently, thus we commend [them] for the courage and strength to fulfill this difficult activity. Above all, they were able to rise up and continue to believe that life must go on,” said Doque.

The week-long celebration, which commenced on April 15, featured various programs aimed at supporting and showcasing the talents of solo parents. Activities included a one-stop shop for solo parent orientation, a search for solo parents, leadership training and team building sessions, as well as a seminar focusing on mental health and suicide awareness.

The Gingoog CSWD assures solo parent beneficiaries of the strict enforcement of laws and benefits designed to support single parents. Additionally, the city government remains committed to fostering inclusivity in Gingoog by providing tailored programs and benefits for various sectors within the community. (JAKA/PIA-10)
